Hello World

It's nice to meet you, world of adolescent literacy. I'm Jen. I am familiar with primary and intermediate literacy. Not so much secondary, but what an adventure!

I started out my journey at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Elementary Education with a concentration inSpanish. I currently teach 4th and 5th grade literacy and social studies in a multi-aged setting in a western suburb of Chicago.  This teaching role is new to me as I have specialized in the elementary setting. This is my 4th year of teaching as I have taught kindergarten, 1st, 4th, and now 4/5. In my very short career, I have seen and worked with vastly different developmental stages in regards to literacy.

I'm currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Literacy Education with a focus on reading (through Northern Illinois University) and will be a certified reading specialist by the end of 2015. Phew.

I'm excited to step out of the comfort zone of the elementary world into the world of secondary education. This adventure may be hopefully natural as 4th grade is around the time when adolescent literacy starts to root.

Deep breaths, and here we go!
